Ways to Learn
10 years ago, I did my first demo for the fellow artists. They loved how I explained what I was doing while painting, and why. Since then, I’ve taught pastel classes and workshops in many states and in Italy. Now, artists all over the world study with me in my Online School - Painting With Lana Ballot.
The easiest option to fit into your schedule, these independent study courses provide you with unlimited time access to my video based instruction. My Online School is hosted by the Teachable.com.
Zoom classes combine the best of online and live instruction - the unlimited time access to the class recording and materials, Zoom meetings with live interaction and personal critiques!
The next monthly Zoom class will start in September - Autumn Reflections. Reserve your Thursdays (4, 11, 18, 25)! The registration is open!
Zoom Meetings: 2 - 4 pm (NY time)

"In a word, the workshop was “masterful.” But, I will go beyond just one word to express my deepest appreciation of your dedication to your craft. Whether the way you taught, emailed preparatory materials, painted, or critiqued, you exemplified the traits of a master. Thank you.
I learned a lot and plan to take future workshops with you."

"I have always admired your work, so I was thrilled to be able to take this class from you. Being a teacher, I can spot a good teacher a mile away, and you have what it takes to do that...you know how to break down the steps needed to get the lesson across to students and help them paint a successful painting. Thank you so much for offering this workshop! Thank you again!"

"It was a wonderful workshop. Lana is a wonderful teacher and she really gives you her attention. She was easy going and a very giving teacher and a really nice person. I''m so glad that Lana came to the Tidewater area in Virginia and shared her pastel wisdom."

"It was a great workshop! Thank you! I was impressed with the amount of demos you did! It was very generous of you! And I am so happy I got one of the demo paintings! I also want to thank the organizers and all participants. I was the only student who came from Canada and I felt very welcomed. I loved the three days I spent painting with Lana and the group!"

"I have taken lessons from Lana Ballot for the past year having had very little formal instruction in pastel. As an artist her approach is to carfully plan the composition and then methodically build the painting from literally and figuratively the ground up. Her teaching style is just as methodical, but very kind and patient. She gives a lot of individual attention to address instruction to individual needs. She carefully plans classes and her demonstrations are a joy to watch."

"Lana Ballot is a talented and dedicated pastel teacher who is passionate about seeing her students succeed. I have been studying with her for just over a year now. Having no experience with this medium prior to walking into her first class, Lana has given me a fantastic foundation in the methods of pastels. This foundation is augmented by Lana's encouragement to explore a variety of subject matters, materials, and techniques. Lana's classes attract students that have a wide range of experience. She is adept at seeing and meeting the needs of each one. As seen in her luminous pastel paintings, Lana makes the extraordinary out of the ordinary. I'm excited to be learning from a teacher who sees the world as only Lana can!"
